From your Santa Cruz Colleague Kate Rhein, with Boone Low Ratliff Architects.
As you know, our community has been devastated by the CZU Lightning Complex Fire. Hundreds of people, many of them friends, have lost their homes over the past few weeks. As Santa Cruz County design professionals we will all share the care and responsibility of helping them rebuild over the coming months and years.
We would like to help coordinate the building design community in Santa Cruz County so that we can quickly share important information and respond to volunteer needs as they come up. We have been working with the AIA Monterey Bay, and Bill Kempf of the AA to start the process and share information and ideas. If you are interested, we have set up the following:
- A Facebook group page called ‘Rebuild Santa Cruz Design Team’, where we can all share information/ ask questions etc. If you are not a Facebook member, if you click on the link above and select ‘join’, you can sign up for free. You just need an email address.
- There’s a useful update from Environmental Planning that we received today, and a link to the County planning departments ‘Recover and Rebuild’ new Webpage. This will be our main forum for sharing information.
- We are putting together a contact list of those who would like to be involved in the rebuild process including anyone who might be interested in volunteering services/ participating in town halls etc. (We can also send out email updates for those who are not comfortable with Facebook). - Bill Kempf has set up a Slack Site for the AASCClack Site focused on the fire rebuilds.
