The AIA Monterey Bay Emerging Professionals Committee is committed to encouraging growth in the career paths of our members. Currently to become a licensed architect in the State of California, the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB) and the California Architects Board (CAB) require prospective licensees to take the Architectural Registration Exam (ARE) administered by NCARB.

Currently the NCARB ARE is in it’s fifth series, more commonly referred to as the ARE 5.0. Study materials are widely available from sources such as Black Spectacles, Ballast O’Hara PPI, Brightwood Architectural Education, and many more. For more information on the NCARB ARE 5.0 and how to better prepare yourself, check out NCARB’s website here: https://www.ncarb.org/pass-the-are/prepare

The AIA Monterey Bay Emerging Professional Committee have collected study materials for AIA Monterey Bay members to check out and review. Ford Ord Hostel Design Charrette – This was an intensive weekend design charrette for the Ford Ord hostel society. Emerging professionals Andrea Nunez and Kyla Lanzer worked with local architects Kelly Locke and Rebecca Skelin to create a layout for a general site plan with a hostel and mixed use commercial buildings that fit within the city of Seadside’s master plan. They also worked together on a conceptual building design for the future hostel building.
