This course teaches how local purchasing can make all the difference in environmental and conservation strategies. You will learn how to discern the difference between green building programs and will be able to identify and embrace green building concepts and which ones will best meet desired results. We will go over understanding the importance of reducing carbon foot print and identifying and procuring locally sourced materials. You will learn how to apply and receive credit in waste stream diversion and calculating cost of materials and carbon foot print when using recycled content materials. You will walk away with understanding building advantages provided by concrete specifically thermal mass concrete.

Natural Clay Plaster for Sustainable Interior Environments

This course provides an understanding of the composition, sustainability, innovative environmental design and health promoting qualities of modern natural clay plaster for interiors. The impact of clay plasters on relative humidity, indoor air quality, mold prevention, and asthma mitigation is discussed. Environmental health, embodied energy of materials and sustainability impact are integral to the course, as well as discussion of biophilic design and the impact of beauty and fractal patterns for the health of the nervous system. Finally, participants will learn details of installation and available LEED credits of natural clay plasters.
