About This Series

Our 2022 Arts and Architecture Lecture series will explore the Question of Land Use in light of a growing world population and the very finite resources our planet provides. How can we balance the desire for unregulated freedom of the individual with the constraints of resources? This conflict becomes very real for every community in California as we face shortages of fresh water and the ever-increasing danger of wildfires. Private Property advocates and suburban and rural dwellers have long been at odds with Smart Growth Advocates. This leads to important ethical questions to what extent the “public” can support rural and suburban settlements.
