Kathryn Smith, nationally recognized Frank Lloyd Wright authority, will lecture on, Frank Lloyd Wright’s Love Affair with Japan. The fully illustrated lecture, sponsored by Monterey Area Architectural Research Archives (MAARA), will be followed by a book signing and reception with the speaker. Wright is best known as the architect of the Imperial Hotel, Tokyo, which survived one of the biggest earthquakes in Japanese history, virtually undamaged, on its opening day, September I, 1923. He had a fascination with Japanese art all his life, viewing it as a tourist, as a collector, and sometimes as a dealer.
