SUMMARY:CLIMATE ACTION -CHANGE
DESCRIPTION:Register here\n\nSpeaker: Wade Killefer\, FAIA | Partner\, KFA\n\n\nDesign is not just about aesthetic components\, but how buildings perform for people. Join us on a live webinar where we explore the benefits of one of the AIA Framework for Design Excellence measures\, Designing for Change. Reuse\, adaptability\, and resilience are essential to sustainable design\, which seeks to maintain and enhance usability\, functionality\, and value over time. Wade Killefer\, FAIA\, a founding partner at Killefer Flammang Architects\, will explore the design process and showcase the sustainable benefits of adaptive reuse versus building brand new. Additionally\, by using case studies of both historic and non-historic projects\, Wade will showcase how reuse\, adaptability\, and resilience are essential to sustainable design.\n\nEarn 1 LU | HSW for attending\n\nMore information and additional resources can be found here: https://aiacalifornia.org/climate-action-change/

SUMMARY:Arts & Architecture Lecture 4: George Brook-Kothlow POSTPONED TBD
DESCRIPTION:We hope everyone who attended the first two presentations of the 2020 Arts and Architecture Lecture Series\, “Creating the Architecture of the Monterey Peninsula” and the wonderful corresponding wine and hors d’oeuvres receptions put on by the Carmel Heritage Society enjoyed them as much as we did. It was very gratifying to bring the design and general community together to share such insightful programs on the architectural heritage of our area. \nWith the Covid-19 crisis\, we\, of course\, had to postpone our final two lectures and home tour. We want to let everyone know we do intend this as postponement rather than a cancellation and hope to reschedule when the situation allows–hopefully this Fall. \nIn the meantime\, please stay healthy and we look forward to hopefully seeing everyone in the Fall. \nPlease note that any tickets already purchased will be honored for their respective\, rescheduled lectures. If you would like a refund\, however\, please email:  aiamb@sbcglobal.net \n  \nGo to our updated website for descriptions of each lecture and links to register.  Get your tickets NOW!\n https://www.artsandarchitectureaiamb.com/lecture-4

SUMMARY:WEBINAR: Global Color& Design Forecast
DESCRIPTION:WEBINAR Presented By: PPG Paints \nPROGRAM DESCRIPTION\nThe 2020 Global Color and Design Forecast is researched and identified by PPGs international team of color experts and specialists. The presentation unravels the moods\, mindsets and design directions we see trending throughout geographies and segments. The overarching title this year is FLOW\, an energy between structures\, systems and perceptions. Three stories define the directions: On the Move\, At the Core and In the Know. It is time to get out of the polarity paradigm and get in the flow of life\, favoring integration and accepting differences as complements. On the Move represents creativity and breaking the norm. At the Core represents conscious consumption; spending less and demanding higher quality and longevity for every product or service we purchase. In the Know represents a better future using our knowledge of science\, culture and tradition. PPG welcomes you to experience Flow. \nLearning Objectives: \n\nSee the global color direction from the 3 trends themes\nLearn the societal trends and materials influencing the color palettes\nUnderstand how other industries influence architectural preferences\nRecognize how the mindset change of consumers shifted the colors chosen for 2020\n\nDate: April 22\, 2020 \nPresentation: 12:00 to 1:00PM \nLearning Units: 1 AIA LU \nLocation: WEBINAR \nCost: Free Members | $20 Non-Members (plus service fee) \nYou will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the webinar on April 21st.\nREGISTER HERE*\n*AIAMB MEMBERS!!!\nWhen registering through BROWN PAPER TICKETS\, AIA MB \n\nMembers Click on the words “Discount Code or Password.”\nEnter your Member number.\nThen click “Show Available tickets.”\n\nThis should help you through the registration process.

SUMMARY:COTE WEBINAR Adaptation for Resilience (1.5 LU/HSW)
DESCRIPTION:ttps://www.aiasf.org/events/EventDetails.aspx?id=1354474&group= \n  \nDescription: \nToday’s Bay Area construction projects will endure a host of increasingly extreme climate impacts during their 50 year lifespans. These impacts include higher Bay levels and more frequent and extreme storms\, drought\, and wildfire\, as we still face the ever-present threat of extreme seismic events. \nMeanwhile\, the cost – in repair and lost productivity – of all extreme events is rising. And even if the climate crisis were halted tomorrow\, the current\, heightened frequency of severe climate events will batter projects and their communities for years. So\, in parallel with our design efforts to mitigate climate change\, buildings and their architects must adapt to this new environment. \nThe AIASF Committee on the Environment is hosting a vital virtual conversation about constructing buildings that surpass the nominal Building Code standard of ‘survivability.’ Four experts – a structural engineer\, an owner facing sea-level-rise\, a contractor and a wildfire expert – will speak to the progressive value proposition of Adaptation for Resilience. A moderated discussion will follow. \nPlease join us for this online event during Earth Week’s 50th Anniversary\, on John Muir’s birthday\, and while we all weather COVID-19 sequestered at home. \n  \n\nLearning Objectives: \n\nRecognize the difference between mitigation and adaptation.\nIdentify the ways each member of the building industry can improve adaptation.\nQuantify the economic cost-benefit balance of building beyond the level of survivability towards continuous use.\nDiscuss how adaptation supports the at-risk communities that are hardest hit by extreme events.\nStrategize how to engage the public – including the youth movement – in advancing Adaptation for Resilience
