As result\, there will be both challenges and opportunities for California architects in many ways: design process\, stakeholder engagement\, code and regulations\, standard of care\, and design liabilities.\n \nThis Townhall will gather practicing architects specializing in resilient design and government policy makers to discuss the roles of California architects can play in advancing California’s ability to adapt\, sustain\, and thrive in changing climate. The focus of the discussion of this Townhall will be on innovation of design approach and codification of best practices in resilient design for wildfires\, flooding\, and sea level rise. There will be thought provoking dialogues on how California architects can respond and lead the evolving practice of architecture for climate resiliency.\n \nClick Here To Register\n \nMore information and additional resources can be found here: https://aiacalifornia.org/

SUMMARY:Green Specs Division 1: Construction Waste Management\, Reducing Waste at Every Step
DESCRIPTION:COTE Course Presented by AIA MB\nGreen Specs Division 1: Construction Waste Management\,\nReducing Waste at Every Step\n(while improving collaboration between architect\, contractor and waste facility) \nDate: Friday\, May 21\, 2021\nTime: 12:00 to 1:30 P.M.\nCredits: 1.5 AIA LU\nZoom Webinar \nDescription\nConstruction waste makes up one-third of the total refuse nationwide in the US. Demolition represents more than 90 percent of total C&D debris generation\, while construction represents less than 10 percent. \nSuch statistics makes it clear it is important to make better use of debris and existing building materials to make substantial changes in our landfills. This webinar will be a 3 person panel discussion between architects (participants) moderated by Libby Barnes\, AIA\, Tim Flanagan the General Manager of the Monterey Regional Waste Management District and John Teliha of Otto Construction\, located in Monterey CA. \nDiscussion will be focused on ways to reduce construction waste starting with the design phase through the end of construction and how these practices improve the environment and create cost benefits.

SUMMARY:CLIMATE ACTION -CHANGE
DESCRIPTION:Register here\n\nSpeaker: Wade Killefer\, FAIA | Partner\, KFA\n\n\nDesign is not just about aesthetic components\, but how buildings perform for people. Join us on a live webinar where we explore the benefits of one of the AIA Framework for Design Excellence measures\, Designing for Change. Reuse\, adaptability\, and resilience are essential to sustainable design\, which seeks to maintain and enhance usability\, functionality\, and value over time. Wade Killefer\, FAIA\, a founding partner at Killefer Flammang Architects\, will explore the design process and showcase the sustainable benefits of adaptive reuse versus building brand new. Additionally\, by using case studies of both historic and non-historic projects\, Wade will showcase how reuse\, adaptability\, and resilience are essential to sustainable design.\n\nEarn 1 LU | HSW for attending\n\nMore information and additional resources can be found here: https://aiacalifornia.org/climate-action-change/
