DESCRIPTION:Webinar: Resilience and The Evolving Standard of Care Series:\nIntegrating Resilience Design Into Your Architectural Projects\nDate & Time: Wednesday\, Sept 18\, 12:00 to 1:30 p.m. \nCost: Free to AIA Members\, $25 for the general public \nCEU: This session qualifies for 1.5 LU/HSW and 1.5 hrs Zero Net Carbon Design Mandatory Continuing Education. (Live webinar attendees only) \nArchitects should be aware of changes in the industry standard of care\, the role of codes and standards\, and how courts view an architect’s responsibility in the context of worsening weather conditions. \nThe AIA + HKS Tool Kit for Integrating Resilient Design into Architectural Projects provides basic components for integrating resilience with sustainability and net zero carbon design within a standard of care for architectural projects. A unique standard of care shapes the delivery of sustainable design and net zero carbon design in architectural projects from concept to completion\, and can also impact risk management and project delivery. Join our panel as they shed let on the standard of care process and how to integrate resilience and sustainability in your projects. \nClick here for more information and to register

SUMMARY:Pikes Peak Summit Complex: An All-Electric & Severe Climate Case Study
DESCRIPTION:Pikes Peak Summit Complex:\nAn All-Electric & Severe Climate Case Study \nDate: Wednesday\, March 22\, 2023.\nTime: 12:00 to 1:00 p.m.\nPresenter: Pete Jefferson\, PE\, WELL Faculty\, LEED AP | Principal\, BranchPattern\nUnits: 1 LU/HSW (pending approval); Qualifies for 1 hr. ZNCD MCE\nTickets: Free \nAt 14\,115 feet above sea level\, Pikes Peak is a unique high mountain summit accessible to visitors from all over the world\, despite being in the harshest climate in North America. Despite the obstacles posed by the harsh climate\, the vision of the Summit Complex became one that aligned closely with the petals of the Living Building Challenge\, and ultimately certification became a project goal. \nAt the heart of the design response is a bioclimatic design approach\, incorporating elements of biomimicry and regenerative design principles to achieve it. Having opened in June 2021 as the highest elevation public building in North America\, the project is now open to visitors. As the project team continues to live with the building to measure and optimize performance. Design decisions are constantly being tested by the climate\, and in this webinar you will get to hear what worked\, what didn’t\, and lessons learned in the Summit Complex project. \nRegister here

SUMMARY:Building to Campus Scale: Water Strategies in a Changing Climate
DESCRIPTION:Building to Campus Scale: Water Strategies in a Changing Climate \nDate: Thursday\, December 8\, 2022\nWebinar: 12:00 – 1:30 P.M.\nLearning Units: 1.5 AIA LU/HSW\nCost: Free to AIA MB Members\, Sponsors\, and Architecture Students;\nModerator: Laura Dulski\, AIA\, LEED BD+C\, SEED AP | Principal\, DLR Group\nSpeaker: Erin English\, PE\, LEED AP | Practice Leader\, Biohabitats \nHow do we adapt our built environment’s water footprint for a changing climate? \nDecentralized strategies\, or those that can be implemented at the building\, campus or neighborhood scale\, will contribute to water resiliency alongside investments in upgrades to municipal scale infrastructure. Selecting appropriate decentralized water strategies depends on a myriad of conditions such as building typology and use\, regional regulatory climate\, and site and watershed considerations. This session will share best practices from the perspective of a ‘One Water’ paradigm which seeks to unify often disparate water systems such as stormwater\, wastewater\, and water reuse. \nRegister here
