Is it possible that the Monterey Peninsula is finally going to get a water supply project? One aspect of the Regional Desalination Project, that will be decided by the PUC later this year, is that this project does not provide any water to add a bathroom, or to build on a lot of record. This project, should it pass, will only serve to eliminate the water which Cal-Am withdraws from the Carmel River without a legal right. Although this project could finally help to restore the Carmel River, it has garnered typical opposition, ironically from environmental groups even though the main purpose of the project is to benefit the Carmel River.
