The County of Monterey just released a first draft of strategies which will address climate change, as part of its compliance with AB32. Our Chapter, along with the Monterey County Business Council and the NARI chapter sponsored a public forum that was hosted by The Sustainability Academy. One of the efforts of this coalition was to look at what visions for Monterey County may we want to identify, regardless of AB32 as motivator. For example, is AB32 necessary for Monterey County to look at renewable energy power plants? Could the County create an incentive system so folks who decide to purchase an electric car could also choose to have solar panels put on their home or garage so they could charge their car with solar energy? In other words, we are trying to consider strategies that we would want to consider anyways, perhaps because they make sense, use a better technology, or that introduce new marketplace opportunities
